Marketing in the News- Adidas
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adidas
I choose this commercial because I like the fact that my favorite shoe brand, Adidas, is going green. I am also a fan of Disney and the commercial has Kermit the Frog in it as well. Personally, I think that there is a lot that people need to change for the better of the planet. There are so many businesses that are using fossil fuels, polluting the air, and even polluting the oceans/planet. It is something that I am passionate about, going green. I would like to see other big companies and industries changing their businesses by going green. Going green will help the planet “live” longer and will provide a better habitat for us to coexist in.
Adidas is a clothing and footwear company that is starting to go green. They are based out of Germany and hold the title of second largest sportswear company in the world. Adidas was started by two brothers, Adolf, and Rudolf Dassler, originally called Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory in 1924. Then in 1949 both of the brothers had a falling out. Adolf then created the Adidas brand and Rudolf established his brand, Puma. Both brands are still rivals to this day.
This commercial has Stan Smith, a sports legend, sitting on a park bench with Disney’s Kermit The Frog. They are talking about how being green is something that not all businesses are doing but it will eventually make the world a better place. The shoes are also made with vegan leather, which I personally have never seen before in a common sneaker. Adidas is also saying that 90% of their brand will be sustainable by 2025. Their new sneakers are made with PRIMEGREEN technology, which uses recycled plastic and rubber to make the shoes. They’re also making the style available in Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters. Adidas is also using PRIMEBLUE technology, which uses recycled beach plastics in some of their products. What makes this new line so unique is that it is a major company accomplishing this. It is hard for major companies to switch over to sustainable resources sometimes due to the funds or labor to acquire a major change. This is a huge step in the right direction and I hope that more major companies start doing this.
If I were the brand or product manager for Adidas, I would try to make this huge so that everyone would see it. It was released just about 3 weeks ago, and the only reason that I saw the commercial is because of this assignment. I would reach out to different going green companies and promote it with smaller businesses that are doing the same thing. This would build some type of partnership with people that have the same minds and heart. I think that also having Adidas sponsor beach clean-ups, and wildland clean-ups would be a great publicity idea. I would also make sure that the Disney lines are available at every Disney store and Disney Resort. This will allow for more revenue abroad as well. There are so many possibilities with Adidas teaming up with Disney and I look forward to seeing what comes out of it.
